Physical Therapy Services

Initial Evaluation

At your first visit to TheraLife, one of our Doctors of Physical Therapy will perform a detailed assessment of your condition. This includes questions centred on your medical history, the history of your current problem, and a thorough mechanical assessment of your body. We ensure our evaluations are in-depth because we want to unveil all of the possible contributors to your condition. Armed with that knowledge, we are then able to carefully craft a unique plan of care for you.

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercises are the heart of the physical therapy profession.
It involves movement prescribed to correct impairments, restore muscular and skeletal function, or prevent injury.
After evaluating a patient and diagnosing the condition, our physical therapists at TheraLife are skilled at prescribing appropriate exercises for the specific condition.

Therapeutic exercises may include:
• Body mechanics training
• Postural correction activities
• Range of motion exercises
• Soft tissue stretching
• Relaxation techniques
• Aerobic and endurance conditioning
• Strength and power training
• Balance training

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is hands-on treatment, specially designed to assist the mobilization of joints and soft tissue.
It can be used to reduce pain, swelling or joint restrictions; induce relaxation; change muscle function.
Manual therapy is often an integral part of the comprehensive plan of care for optimal patient outcomes.

At TheraLife, our physical therapists are skilled at performing manual therapy techniques. These techniques can include:
• Spinal mobilization
• Peripheral joint mobilization
• Soft tissue mobilization
• Myofascial release techniques

Modalities

Physical therapy treatment sessions are mainly comprised of therapeutic exercises, but often they are enhanced with our modern equipment:

• Class IV Laser (LightForce Ex Therapy Laser): A high-powered therapeutic laser with the ability to “bio-stimulate” tissue growth and repair. It is useful with treatment for pain, inflammation and scar tissue formation.
• Ultrasound: Pulsed or continuous sound waves emitted at varying frequency that are absorbed by the body to control pain, increase blood flow, and increase soft tissue mobility.
• Electrical Stimulation (E-stim): Electric currents used to control pain or activate muscle groups

• Cervical Traction: gentle passive stretch applied to neck by therapist-controlled device, for symptomatic relief from a variety of cervical pathologies

Laser Therapy

The star of all our modalities, that deserves to be highlighted due to it’s significant impact on patient outcomes.
The Light Force Ex Therapy Laser is a Class IV laser. This means that it works via photobiomodulation, which research shows is an effective way to reduce pain quickly and speed up the normal process of healing.

When used in adjunct with appropriate therapeutic exercises, it can help treat many diagnoses including but not limited to:
• Acute muscle strain/pain
• Acute ligament sprain
• Tendinopathy
• Myofascial pain
• Osteoarthritis related pain
• Plantar fasciitis
• Achilles tendon pathology

Our Light Force Ex Therapy Laser is patient approved as it offers:
• Painless treatment
• Short treatment time(5-10 minutes) with long lasting results

Ergonomic Evaluation

At TheraLife we offer ergonomic analysis to improve home or office ergonomics. Many office work injuries such as neck pain, neck stiffness, shoulder pain, low back pain or hip pain, stem from improper work-station setup. To reduce current symptoms and prevent further injury, an office ergonomic analysis and setup may be required to provide a comfortable and healthy work environment. Based on your need, we may come to your home or office to correct the workstations.

Our physical therapy goals include:

  • Reduce repetitive strain
  • Alleviate pain
  • Workstation injury prevention education

Post Operative Orthopedic Management

After surgery, your soft tissues and bones are in a weakened state and require a period of healing. Physical therapy is ideal during this healing process, because our physical therapists have a very good understanding of what needs to be done after each surgical procedure. Our physical therapists will guide you through each stage of recovery, following evidence-based rehabilitation protocols when applicable, to maximize your recovery. Adherence to the recommendations and exercises prescribed will be key to optimal outcomes.

Benefits of post-operative physical therapy include:

  • Minimize scar tissue
  • Restore strength
  • Regain range of motion
  • Speed up your recovery
  • Maximize return to full function and/or sport
  • Reduce pain
  • Improve blood circulation
